TITLE: SPANISH TRANSLATOR/INTERPRETER- **ALL LANGUAGES ACCEPTABLE

SALARY: Per the Terms of Employment for Non-Union Personnel, Cycle I

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (7 work hours, 1-hour unpaid lunch)

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services

 

OBJECTIVE:


The primary function of the Spanish Translator/Interpreter is to facilitate communication between Chicopee Public Schools families and staff through interpreting services. This includes bridging language and cultural barriers in order to protect educational rights of families and their children.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1.Responsible for written and oral translation of school and District documents, including but not limited to school and District communications to families, school and District handbooks, and Special Education documents.
2.Facilitates communication between families and staff by providing oral interpretation at Special Education and Section 504 meetings and other school meetings and events, including in person at school buildings, via telephone, and via Zoom or similar remote platforms.
3.Assists administration in family and community outreach.
4.Assists in translation for families enrolling in the Central Enrollment Office.
5.Supports the office staff in the Central Enrollment Office.
6.Ensures all “school to home” communications are translated appropriately.
7.Efficiently schedules and coordinates translation services provided by outside agencies by acting as a liaison between District staff and third-party translation vendors.
8.Uses District software to assist with other languages.
9.Maintains electronic database of all translations.
10.Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.

This job requires a flexible schedule to include evening parent conferences, Open Houses, etc., as well as, traveling between school buildings within the City.

 

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience
1.High School Diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1.Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
2.Strong interpersonal skills, must be able to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic, cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
3.Must maintain confidentiality.
4.Self-motivated, flexible, very well organized.
5.Detail oriented with analytical and problem solving skills, along with customer service abilities and other related characteristics.
6.Ability to work well as part of a team.
7.Ability to effectively manage a dynamic schedule.
8.Ability to work under pressure; must be highly adaptable and flexible.
9.Familiarity with computers and computer software programs, particularly Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
10.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

1.Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, adding machines, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
