TITLE: SUBSTITUTE PARAPROFESSIONAL- DAY-TO-DAY

TYPE: Non-Union, Cycle III
SALARY: Per the Terms of Employment for Non-Union Personnel, Cycle III
REPORTS TO: Building Principal

 

OBJECTIVE: The Substitute Paraprofessional – Day-to-Day assists the classroom teacher in delivering the district curriculum in multiple ways that increase student learning and achievement.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Duties and Instruction
1. Under the direction of the classroom teacher, supports student instruction in academic, social,
and motor skills through the delivery and assessment of the district curriculum. This may
include, but is not limited to, the following duties:

2. Works independently by appropriately using the directions given by the classroom teacher.
3. Builds on strengths and acts on suggestions in areas needing improvement.
4. Demonstrates sound judgment.
5. Maintains effective, professional working relationships with others (e.g., paraprofessionals,
teachers, staff, parents, guardians, administrators, etc.)
6. Resolves conflict well, and seeks assistance when appropriate.
7. Under the direction of the classroom teacher, strives to maintain a learning environment that
is both physically and emotionally safe.
8. As appropriate, assists in communication and enforcement of federal and state laws and
Regulations, as well as district policies and procedures.


School/Community Relations
1. Respect students, parents, guardians, and community.
2. Respect and embrace students of diverse backgrounds and experiences.

 

Operations
1. Assist in the protection of students and property.
2. Assist the classroom teacher in fired and other emergency drills.
3. Assist the classroom teacher in the management of students (e.g., dismissal, field trips, etc.)


Professional
1. Maintain a high level of personal integrity, confidentiality, and a strong work ethic.
2. Practice discretion and maintain confidentiality.
3. Participate in professional development as assigned.

 

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma required, as well as additional college-level coursework. Associates or
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
3. Previous experience preferred.
4. Is trained or willing to be trained by the Chicopee Public schools in the knowledge and performance areas identified for the specific assignment (e.g., Responsive Classroom Techniques, Implementation of a Student Behavior Plan Use of a communication Board, Physical Restraint and Verbal De-escalation Techniques).
